Personal

On the 7th February, we had a workshop (one of many) dealing with our personal goals and aspirations and the importance of recognising our strengths and weaknesses. We were required to consider a number of pertinent questions to do with our approach to the career of research psychologist and a lot of interesting reflections came out of this:

Why do I want to do this?

I would like to specialise in the field of psychophysiological measurement but do not have the confidence in terms of research, to be able to hold my own with others in that field. Am able to teach myself a lot but the skills that I gain from this course are difficult to teach oneself – mainly because I was not aware of much of what I needed. The course is showing me what skills I need to obtain. Personal growth!

What do you need from the programme

  1. Do what I enjoy – intellectual stimulation
  2. Make money out of what I enjoy
  3. Purposeful activity
  4. Recognition
  5. Presentation skills
  6. Articulation skill
  7. Communication skills with respect to the above
  8. General Analytic skills – specifically application and analysis of statistical methods

What skills do I already possess in my research toolbox?

  1. Languages
  2. Ability to work independently – Very good
  3. Sense of humour
  4. Adaptability
  5. Openness to new experiences – very good
  6. Comfortable within myself and the phase I am in life at the moment
  7. Creativity
  8. Writing ability
